Sometimes it can be difficult to know what to write about. The following creative writing prompts can help you come up with new, creative ideas. Don’t be afraid to combine these prompts! And, if a particular prompt lines up with your life experience, feel free to tell the story from a personal perspective.

8. Someone wrestling with a morally gray issue that will have significant consequences
9. A first date between two very different people
10. An ongoing family conflict that started years before over something very small
11. An older person revealing a big secret on their deathbed
12. An unexpected heartbreak that causes a person to make big changes
13. A shy teenager attending their first school dance
14. Two people who don’t like each other at first but then become great friends
15. A mystery that happens in a small town where everyone knows each other
16. The final game in a season that ends in a very unexpected way
17. A group of strong-minded people who must come together to make a decision
18. An incredible performer with a dark secret
19. A family where each member has a strange or unique ability
20. Someone who became famous at a young age and then fell into obscurity
21. An advice columnist whose personal life is falling apart
22. People stuck in a hotel during a blizzard
23. A one-time encounter between two people that dramatically impacts each person
24. A young person who was raised in a strict family that is experiencing the wider world for the first time
25. An extremely logical person dating a very romantic person
26. Someone who loses something very important
27. An unexpected guest who shows up at a family reunion
28. A young person trying to prove themselves
29. A prisoner on death row who receives an unexpected pardon
30. Someone trying to make amends for their past
